Anxiety

Relaxed reading on the couch the rocks of anxiety are not in the pack!

When you’re carrying the uncontrollable weight of anxiety in an invisible backpack, life is so much harder.

In the Infantry, we didn’t just carry weight; we mastered it. We were taught how to pack for comfort, how to organise for quick retrieval, and most importantly we adapted when better kit and better methods became available. But no one teaches us how to pack the mental weight. Over time, life adds more to your ‘mental rucksack’, if you don’t adapt or ditch what’s no longer needed such as worry, stress, grief, work pressure, and those ‘what-if’ thoughts. Eventually, the straps start to dig in, the weight shifts. You walk round slouched and exhausted because the load is unbearable.

Understanding Anxiety

Now, you don’t need a military background to find relief—you just need a smarter, science-based way to organize your thoughts. My approach in Durham and Sunderland uses Solution Focused Hypnotherapy to help you “repack” your mental space, ditching the dead weight of worry so you can move forward with clarity, ease, and a genuine sense of calm. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) and Talking Therapy doesn’t ask you to unpack every heavy stone from your past; instead, teaches you to only carry what’s comfortable. (After all some anxiety is healthy and there to protect us from harm). Using the power of your subconscious to help you to focus on lightening the load and move forward.

Carrying that weight of Anxiety around Durham

County Durham is famous for its rolling hills, and if you’ve ever strolled the climbs of the city, you know they’re no joke. Living and working with anxiety is exactly like tackling those inclines all day, every day, it is physically and mentally exhausting to carry that heavy anxiety, everywhere with no let up.

Anxious wait for the tide to turn: Sunderland to Seaham

The North Sea coast from Sunderland down to Seaham is beautiful, but as any local knows, the waters can be unpredictable. Living with anxiety is like wanting to reach the beach, but feeling stuck waiting for a tide to turn, but for you it never does.
